Section Three
Windows 98 VPN PPTP Client Configuration at Remote Site
Note: This procedure is very similar and can apply to configuring a Windows ME client.
First check to see if your Windows 98 machine is capable of making VPN calls by going to My Computer > Control
Panel > Network. Check and see if there is a device called Microsoft Virtual Private Networking Adapter. Another
device under Network Adapter category should be found as well called Dial-Up Adapter (VPN Support). If you have
a modem in the machine, this device will be shown as Dial Up Adapter #2 (VPN Support). If these two devices are
not found in the machine, then please download and install Microsoft Dial-Up Networking (DUN) 1.4
. Or if you already
have the latest Dial-Up Networking which includes Virtual Private Networking then you may only need to install the
VPN adapter: http://support.bulletproof.net.au/vpn/w9x/adapter_install.shtml
1. Now assuming the Windows 98 workstation has VPN support click the Start menu, select Settings, select
Control Panel, click Add/Remove Programs, click Windows Setup tab and click Communications.
2. In the Communications window, click Details, check the box for Virtual Private Networking from the scroll list,
and click OK.
3. You will be returned to the Add/Remove Programs Properties window. Click OK and the files will be installed.
4. Restart the computer when asked.
