RouteFinder PPTP Server with PPTP Remote Client Example

This document applies to the RF760VPN, the RF660VPN, and RF600VPN. All references to RouteFinder apply to all

three RouteFinders.

This example explains how to configure the RouteFinder as a secure PPTP Server that allow a remote VPN PPTP

client, like a Roadwarrior, access to a LAN. This document is broken down into three sections.

Section One explains how to configure the RouteFinder.

Section Two explains how to configure a Windows 2000/XP PPTP workstation.

Section Three explains how to configure a Windows 98/ME PPTP workstation.

The RouteFinder software is pre-installed on the RouteFinder. Initial configuration is required in order for you to run

the Web Management software program and begin operation. The browser-based interface eases VPN configuration

and management. The VPN functionality is based on IPSec and PPTP protocols and uses Triple DES 168-bit

encryption to ensure that your information remains private.

Caution: Use a safe Password! Your first name spelled backwards is not a sufficiently safe password; a password

such as xfT35$4 is better.

Encryption Updates

For Windows 2000, you need to download the 128 bit encryption update from the following URL:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/recommended/encryption/default.asp

For Windows 95/98/Me/NT, you need to download the 128 bit encryption update from the following URL:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/download/128bit/default.asp

For Windows NT 4.0, you can download service pack 6a for 128 bit encryption from the following URL:

http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/nts/downloads/recommended/sp6/128bitX86/
