ProxyServer User Guide

Introduction

This chapter provides an overview of the software you received with your ISDN ProxyServer and then

provides a typical application and explains how to change various configuration parameters from the

default settings that were set up when the ProxyServer software was originally configured and

downloaded to the unit (Chapter 3).

It is not the intention of this chapter to describe every dialog box and option in the software, since

most of the options and fields in the dialog boxes are defined and explained in the On-Line Help

system. The Help menus define various buttons, options, and fields in the software and provide some

recommended values. In this “ dynamic” Help system, the information presented always relates to

the dialog box or window that is currently open.

Before You Begin

In Windows 95, the seven basic modules in the ProxyServer software are displayed as separate

(shortcut) icons in the Proxy Server 2.01 program group.

The various configuration options are explained in the following paragraphs.

Configuration Port Setup

The Configuration Port Setup utility enables you to set up and configure the communications port on

your PC for use with the ProxyServer. This dialog box is included in the initial installation process.

Although parameters can be changed, always be sure to note the current status of the software

before making any alterations.

When you installed the ProxyServer software, you configured the port as either an IP or COM Port,

depending on how your PC was connected to the ProxyServer. If the ProxyServer was cabled directly

to one of the COM Ports of your PC, you selected COM Port (in the Communication Type group) and

selected the number of the COM Port your PC was using to communicate with the ProxyServer

(either COM1 or COM2).

If your PC was connected to the ProxyServer over a LAN, you selected IP in the Communication Type

group and then assigned a static, unique IP address for the ProxyServer (or selected an IP address

from the drop-down list).
