Scenario 1 – Running the DDNS Client
This scenario describes how to run the DDNS Client and the various conditions under which the update of IP address
will be done on the DDNS server.
Description The DDNS client is enabled using the command set ip ddns enable.
After issuing a Save, DDNS client starts.
The DDNS client updates the ip-address in the DDNS server upon any of the following
conditions:
When the IP module is rebooted, the ip-address acquired is updated in the DDNS
server.
When there is no ip-address change for the update-interval time, the existing ip-
address is updated in the server to “touch” the domain records in the server without
expiring (this is needed when using free DDNS service).
When there’s a fresh PPP link established and the ip-address acquired is different
from the already existing ip-address in the server, the ip-address is updated.
Configuration
1. Mandatory configuration.
Command
NA
Result Responses Check in the dyndns.org server if the ip-address is updated.
Notes
At any point in time, if the PPP link is not up and the DDNS client needs to contact the server, then it can
implicitly establish the PPP link and bring it down once the updating is over.
If the DDNS client is unable to reach the DDNS server or unable to update in the DDNS server even after
maximum retries, then it tries to reach the server again in 24-hour intervals.
