Chapter 14 – Dynamic DNS Client
Command Line Interface and Application Examples for Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. IP Modules (S000368F) 144
Scenario 2 – Forcibly Updating the IP Address
This scenario describes how to forcibly update the IP address in the server. This can be done by the user when he
wants to update the ip-address to prevent the domain names to be deleted from the DDNS server.
Description The DDNS client is enabled using the command set ip ddns enable.
When a force update command is given, the DDNS client updates the present ip-address in
the DDNS server. The ip-address acquired by PPP is updated in the server even if it was
the same ip-address already existing in the server.
Configuration
1. Mandatory configuration.
Command
DDNS force-update
Result Responses
"Update Success OK" on successful updating of the IP address.
"Update Failed OK" on failure of the updating of the IP address.
"Updating already in process"
Notes
If the PPP link is not up during forced updating, the DDNS client implicitly brings up the link and brings it down
after updating.
The DDNS client tries to update in the DDNS server only once; i.e., if updating fails, it does not retry.
Force-update should be used minimally as the domain name may get blocked if the user tries to update the
same IP address again and again.
